You’ve explored love as a genre before, but supernatural is something different. What made you take up this role?
Given that I’ve worked for over 15 years in the Indian television industry, I have been a part of many genres including supernatural and love stories. Though I was keen to explore the episodic format and Laal Ishq presented me with that opportunity. Also, the episode is directed by Kabir Sadanand, someone who I have worked with before. Knowing his style of working gave me the liberty to go into the depths of my character and improvise.

How well do you think the combination of the two genres work?
Unlike any other concepts, this show presents a love thriller with an emotional side to it. Supernatural as a genre demands extremely brilliant direction and camera work and of course good actors to set the appropriate mood to the storyline.

Have you ever experienced anything supernatural?
I haven’t experienced anything supernatural as yet. While I do believe that there are supernatural elements that exist in the universe, I hope I never experience anything supernatural.

What makes Laal Ishq different?
The show ensemble includes some of the biggest faces known to television which is quite interesting. It’s a unique experience for the viewers to find emotional, love and supernatural elements in a single show and this is what makes Laal Ishq different. Typically, a supernatural/ thriller show is all about triggering shock and fear points, whereas here the viewers are presented with a beautiful and a heart touching storyline.

Have you previously worked with the other stars on the show?
No. This is the first time I got a chance to work with Abhishek and it’s been a great working equation. I have seen his work on TV and have always admired him for it. Abhishek is an amazing actor and to be honest, he is by far the most natural actor that I’ve worked with. He depicts emotions so effortlessly that he left me in awe.

How was your experience? What should viewers expect from the show?
It was an amazing experience to work with the entire team of Laal Ishq. The location was beautiful and it was inspiring to work with Abhishek and the crew. Keeping an open mind while watching a new show is important because every new show has something unique to offer. With Laal Ishq, viewers are sure to get an unexpected end to all their episodes.

Can you briefly tell us about the character you’re playing?
I’m playing the character of Shalini who is a housewife and a mother. She is a simple woman who loves her family and would do anything for them. My character encounters some mysterious circumstances surrounding the family and the story shows how she fights those situations.

A love quote that you swear by?
Love is when the other person’s happiness is more important than your own.

A star you would want to Ishq/romance? Why?
I don’t have any particular star in mind who I’d like to romance. I think after all these years in television, I could romance even a piece of wood. (laughs)

Web series these days is a craze for today’s Indian audience. Would you like to explore this segment?
Yes definitely, web space is witnessing some really refreshing content. Not only are they experimenting with newer subjects, but also the way they are focusing on different concepts, is bringing in a positive change. So yes, I would love to try something on the web too.

Any future projects?
Yes, but I can’t reveal much at this point. I have ventured into a totally different genre than what I have done before and I am sure the viewers will love it.
