From essaying an open-minded modern day ‘saas’ in a joint family to portraying a negative and grey character on screen. From giving the viewers an unstoppable laughter riot to leaving them awed with her flawless ability to bring alive a fantasy character. There is no genre that remains untouched by this veteran of television, Apara Mehta. Having experimented with innumerable roles across varied genres over 20 years of her television career, the actress is all set to return to her comfort genre, comedy.
Surprisingly this also marks her second time sharing screen space with ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ co-star after 12 years, who is none other than the popular Angoori Bhabhi of &TV’s Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain. Interestingly Apara and Shubhangi interacted when the latter shot for the family drama, performing a classical dance. Recalling a vivid memory of that time Shubhangi said, “While we may have not had a scene together, I remember interacting with Apara ji offscreen where she gave me a few suggestions on different expressions and ways to improvise my performance. After that we met for the second time during the shoot for Bakula Bua Ka Bhoot where we happened to remember the first time we met and ended up chatting much more than when we had back then.” Delighted at being reunited, she said, “It was a sweet surprise when I got to know about Apara ji joining the show. She is such a lovely personality and a complete professional. Her vast experience not just with television, but in theatre as well is an inspiration for any actor who aspires to be like her. I am eager to begin this new experience with her after so many years on Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain.”
Adding to her thoughts on reuniting with Shubhangi, Apara said, “Shubhangi and I have some treasured memories that extend beyond just work. She is one of the finest actors in the television industry whose work has always reflected her perfection. From the time when we first interacted till date, she has only evolved in her art. I am personally a fan of Angoori Bhabhi and enjoy her character and style a lot. Working with her once again in Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain will be an experience worth cherishing.”
While the actress has experimented with varied genres, her incredible love and passion for comedy is truly unmatchable. Sharing her thoughts on the same, Apara said, “As an actor I have been in and out of characters for almost 20 years now, yet I always found my comfort in comedy. Some of the roles offered to me and a few played by me as well have been in total contrast to the fun loving, cheery person that I am. No doubt, I loved essaying those roles, but portraying a comic character has always brought out a natural and lovable side of me. Having said that, I still feel comedy as a genre remains a challenging one, which is why I am extremely choosy while taking up a comedy show and role. While it may be easy to capture the audience with a strong narrative, to be able to give the same audience a hearty laugh is quite difficult and requires a clearly sketched character and a good story in place. With there are several shows catching the attention of the woman of the house, I feel comedy is one which gets the entire family together. Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hain is just one of those shows that is a combination of a great storyline with interesting plots and incredibly talented actors.”
Apara plays the character of Alpa Shah, a Gujarati lady in the show. Bringing in a little flavour of Gujarat amidst the North Indian aura of Modern Colony, Apara is once again set to create magic on screen with yet another unique role.
