Kriti Kharbanda began her career with a Telugu film and soon made her Bollywood debut with Vikram Bhatt’s Raaz Reboot opposite Emraan Hashmi. But soon, tables turned and she was paired opposite Rajkummar Rao in Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana which makes its World Television Premiere on Zee Cinema this Saturday, 17th March at 8pm. We caught up with the vibratious actress for a quick chat. Below is the excerpt:-
What about the movie attracted you the most?
I fell in love with the script. The first time I met Ratnaa Sinha, she gave me such a positive vibe. She seemed like someone who really loves and is passionate about Bollywood films. She will go on my wall of fame as she made me believe that I am way better than what I think I am and I will always be grateful to her for that. Although, she has the vision, she never undermines what you feel for your characters
Share your experience of working with Rajkummar Rao? How were you able to create such an adorable chemistry with him?
Rajkummar Rao is an absolute delight to work with. He is genuine and loves his craft. He brings life to his characters and is a treat to watch. I absolutely admire him as an actor. I believe that our chemistry seemed adorable mainly because of Ratnaa mam’s vision. Raj and I became friends and that helped us become comfortable with each other and of course we felt it from the heart. I believe Aarti Sinha is now a part of me.
What is your take on women having a career post marriage?
I am all for career whether pre or post marriage. A girl shouldn’t turn around and say, you can eat because I cook or the boy says you are able to cook because I am bringing money home. I believe equality in a relationship is very important and for that both partners should be equally capable to handle anything.
In the movie, you were against the concept of arranged marriage. What do you prefer in your real life- love or arranged marriage?
In real life, I am all for love marriage. I am not the kind of person who can be instructed to fall in love. I am not saying that it cannot happen, but most of my family members have met the person and decided to get married and their marriages have worked beautifully. I am a little more than that as I believe in love and companionship
As Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana makes its World Television Premiere on Zee Cinema, what is that one message you would like the audience to take away from it?
I have been waiting for this day for a long time. It is the biggest highlight of my career. Even today, society defines our roles – where a man has to go out and work while a woman stays home to cook. I want the viewers to treat their sons and daughters equally. A girl is always expected to look after the house and do the daily chores even after returning from work. When the son is equally educated, he too should be asked to help around at home. He should be taught that it is okay to stay home and look after the kids, if the wife has to go to work. I want the audience to watch the movie with an open mind
Tell us something about the projects that you are currently working on?
I am currently working on the third instalment of ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana’ with the Deols – Dharam sir, Sunny sir and Bobby. I am thoroughly enjoying myself. We are almost done with the shoot and looking forward to the release soon. I am also working on a movie titled ‘Karwan’ with Dulquer Salman and Irrfan sir, where I play Dulquer’s love interest
