At a time when Class 10 and 12 students await their Board results after exams were cancelled due to the pandemic, Institute for Career Studies (ICS) and Directorate of School Education Jammu (DSEJ) facilitated free and comprehensive career guidance for them through a special webinar on Saturday.

As many as 1,000 students, parents and teachers attended the Zoom event, which was also streamed live on social media.

Speaking on ‘Be future ready with your best-fit subject, course and career choices’, Dr Amrita Dass, Founder-Director, ICS, busted widespread myths related to educational and career choices, and answered scores of queries from Class 10 and 12 students regarding their immediate next steps and long-term career plans.

She guided Class 10 students on selecting the right subject combination at this critical juncture of their lives – thinking outside the silos of arts, commerce & science and focusing on their interests and abilities.

For Class 12 students, she shared the importance of choosing the right course at the right campus at the bachelor’s level for a fulfilling and meaningful career – whether they took an academic route or pursued a professional course.

Post-COVID career trends, scholarships, country-wise studies abroad scenario, rising significance of Liberal Arts, and the role of parental support in students’ success were also discussed.

“Take a decision today – to always do your best, achieve your best and deliver your best. A universe of opportunities awaits you and the world is your stage,” Dr Dass told the students.

Dr Ravi Shankar Sharma (KAS), Director School Education Jammu, was the chief patron at the webinar.

Romesh Sharma, Head, Counselling Cell, DSEJ, moderated the session and the Q&A round in which many students from rural Jammu shared their queries and concerns. This event was another step in the ICS-DSEJ collaboration. Earlier, DSEJ had placed ICS’ free career guidance app on their education portal to benefit students from the region.
