“Every Independence Day, I attempt to learn something new about the nation and the heroic work done by our freedom fighters during our struggle for freedom. While we have grown up listening to their stories, I think the generation today must also take active interest to gain knowledge about brave minds like Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad and many others who have contributed in making this country a better place to live. I believe after hearing their stories and how they fought for the country’s independence by protesting in inhumane conditions generates a sense of patriotism in oneself. These heroes of our nation have sacrificed immensely to make India a better home for us today and I think the best way we could repay them is to ensure sanctity of equality amongst humans. While we ended one war 72 years back against the Britishers, I think it’s time we end another against religion, caste and colour. It’s the only road to a secular and corruption-free India.”

“Independence Day always brings back memories of my school days when we used to stand in respect, saluting our national flag while it was being hoisted along with many cultural activities that we participated in. However, as I grew up and connected with some of my friends from the army background, I realized the true meaning of independence and how we need to value it at every step. Independence to me means equality in everything where each and every human irrespective of their gender, caste, colour and income can exercise their right without feeling vulnerable by society. The day we stop discrimination amongst people is when we will be truly independent. As an Indian, I am truly proud to be a citizen of this nation and I urge everyone to keep the patriotism alive and contribute towards making this country a better place. Wishing each and every one a very Happy 72nd Independence Day!”

“I have been wishing to attend the Delhi parade for quite some time now and was hoping to do that this Independence Day. Given that I’m occupied with my shoot for Mitegi Lakshman Rekha, I would instead probably spend the day with some school kids. The kind of pride they have in celebrating this day surely generates a feeling of patriotism within oneself and I believe that’s the next best way to relieve this day and all that our freedom fighters have given us in order to be able to celebrate 72 years of India’s independence. Moreover, the thought of spending time with them while celebrating this occasion brings back memories of my school days of hearing the heroic stories of our nation’s heroes and the various sacrifices they have made. Recollecting all that they have done for the nation, as citizens I believe the least we could do is to maintain a sense of cleanliness and sanity in our city. I believe in the current scenario, this is the biggest contribution we can make towards our nation as responsible citizens.”

“The spirit of patriotism in our country shouldn’t be limited to just one day. There’s so much that each one of us can contribute on an individual level towards making the India of our dreams. On this Independence Day, I want to pray and thank our armed forces who pay the price of our safety by sacrificing more than we can imagine. Also to their families who stand strong behind them and support them in this noble duty. It takes immense courage and strength to see your loved one fight on the border for the nation. All my respect and prayers are with our real heroes and their families. Jai Hind!”
