As Indians, most of us have grown up hearing folklore about witches. For generations, we’ve seen them as these wicked, cunning practitioners of the occult. Are they the manifestation of our sub-conscious fears or do they exist somewhere in the dark alleys of India’s hinterlands? While we’ll never really know, have you ever imagined all the drama that could possibly unfold if a witch fell in love? Zee TV’s latest primetime offering Manmohini takes audiences on a trip of edgy fantasy with a witch’s story of timeless love, revenge, desire, obsession and everything in between. Produced by LSD Films, Manmohini premiered on 27th November 2018 and airs every Monday to Friday at 7.30 pm on Zee TV.

Set against the vibrant canvas of Rajasthan, where every grain of the desert sand tells a story, the show will chronicle the tale of a witch Manmohini, an unfulfilled soul who has been longing to reunite with her love Ram (played by Ankit Siwach) for 500 years and comes back from the past to haunt him and his wife Siya (played by Garima Singh Rathore). The show captures Siya’s unconditional love for Ram and her spirited battle against an immortal force as fierce as Mohini in order to keep her man. To promote the show, the talented film, stage, and television actor, Vandana Pathak who plays the character of Dai Maa was in Lucknow today.

On her visit to the city, Vandana Pathak said, “Fantasy or supernatural thrillers find an instant connection as they offer viewers the relief of escapism. My character is of a typical Rajasthani woman who is traditionally rooted and dresses up like one as well. The entire look and portrayal of the character is very different from what I have attempted in the past. There is so much we can explore in the fantasy drama genre and that is something that drew me to the character. Taking about her visit, she added, “ It feels great to be in Lucknow today. The people and its culture are so welcoming. I am really looking forward to having a good time whilst in the city”.

Mohini has the power of performing BhuraJaadu and 500 years ago, she was a part of the Ghaghra Paltan cult, a nomadic tribe of Rajasthan, whose main occupation was to perform dance and song for the rich and powerful. It is her obsession to get Ram that will set her up in a war against his contemporary wife Siya. In this unusual combat between two women, one a selfless modern day mortal and the other an obsessive, immortal spirit who resorts to the power of BhuraJaadu to win back her love, audiences will find themselves rooting for both Siya and Mohini from time to time. Tune into Manmohini to find out who will emerge victorious in this war of love!
